Special Children’s School

Holy Cross Hr. Sec. School, for the Hearing Impaired was started with 2 Students in 1982 has successfully completed 32 years of service to the Society. Today the school has 120 students with varying degrees of auditory malfunction. 15 dedicated special educators are engaged in this service. The school has classes from Pre KG to XII following regular Samacheer Kalvi syllabus of the State Board of Tamil Nadu.

The special curriculum includes auditory training, speech therapy both in group and individual. Conversation, lip reading, picture composition, rhyme, storytelling and numbers are taught in Pre KG. Qualified staffs give different types of therapy and training to help the students to become equal to the mainstream.

Special coaching in working with computers is undertaken in collaboration with CSC Computers. In addition to regular class is we teach tailoring and embroidery. English coaching class is given for the students who have completed XII. Many of our alumni have joined special and regular colleges. They have ventured even into VIT.

Our special students enjoy life and do not allow their disability to overcome their zeal for living a healthy and fulfilled life. We are proud to announce that our students participated in National level Judo conducted in April 2013 by All India Sports Council of the Deaf at Aurangabad and won 1 silver medal by Nithiya and 3 bronze medals won by Raghu, Ambika and Anand Kumar. In 2014 Selva won the bronze medal at Delhi.

Raghu, Sudhakar, Narasimman, Shirley, Saritha and Nandhini participated in State level Chess Championship and were placed overall 3rd rank.Indian Council for Child welfare Tamil nadu conducted the National level drawing competition and our students are participating every year and getting the national awards.

Our students for a first time ventured into the field of science. Vennila, Shalini, Shyamala, Arul and Poovarasan of standard VIII participated in 22nd National Science Conference at Vellore and presented the paper on Climate and Health and they received the Certificate of the Young Scientist.

Our School is the first special school to start Citizen Consumer Club (CCC) in Tamil Nadu where awareness of consumer rights and the procedure of business is taught. We also give guidance and counseling to the students as well as to their parents.

The primary purpose of education is not only to acquire knowledge but to transfer the knowledge gained at school and to realize that they too are the equal citizens in the society.
